I just came back from New York, where it was very cold, and then returned to Florida where it was also COLD! While I don’t like being cold, I love the styling opportunities that cooler weather brings. This offers so many chances to layer (hello trusty turtlenecks And chunky knit sweaters!), mix and match, and add cozy accessories. However, sometimes it can be a little difficult to feel chic when you just want to stay warm. But it is not impossible ! Today I’m going to share some of my favorite winter outfits. These are the type of pieces I use year after year to create stylish winter outfits. And hot!
3 essential winter outfits
In my opinion, there are a few essential items that every cold weather wardrobe should include. My top three is great outerwear, meaningful shoes, and pops of color. Of course, there are additional winter outfit staples that go with it, like a pair of jeans and some classic sweaters. But for today I’m going to focus on these three winter essentials.
1. Winter Coats
I think a coat is the most important part of any winter outfit. In New York, everyone jokes that they don’t take off their coats, even indoors, because it East The clothe. As you can probably guess, when it comes to this winter essential, I’m a statement coat kind of girl. The bigger, brighter and more exaggerated the better! But I know that not everyone is as bold as I would like to be. Therefore, I will be sharing plenty of coat options to complement any winter outfit!
Favorite Winter Coats
Let’s start with the classics. Personally, I love it timeless wool overcoat (and it’s currently on sale!) This double wool coat is actually reversible – both sides are incredibly chic. If you’re looking for a must-have winter outfit that’s practical, versatile and timeless, this is it!
If you’re a classic girl, but want to try something a little different, this cape coat where swing coat are both awesome. The latter features some truly unique details that make it more casual compared to other swing coats. Another way to spice things up a bit is to choose a fun, bold color. I watched this fuschia beauty (Here is a more affordable option), This superb green coat And this bright pink piece.
Faux fur and sheepskin are always a fun addition to a winter outfit! My current top contenders in this category are this sky blue numberThis oversized faux sherling jacketand this fat checkerboard print coat.
Before continuing, here’s a quick word about choosing a coat. When it comes to outerwear, I always like to pay attention to the overall volume of the outfit. With a coat, I’m looking to either create volume upon volume, or keep my bottoms more streamlined and slimmer (keeping all the volume at the top). Just something to keep in mind when planning your outfits!
2. Winter outfit shoes
While I think coats are what “makes” a winter outfit, shoes are just as important. Not only do your shoes ensure that you look stylish, but they also determine whether or not you can easily get from point A to point B. If you’ve ever lived in New York, you know what I’m talking about . Cleaning up slush, exposed ankles, avoiding heels on ice…the list of dangers we all face from December to March goes on and on!
Favorite winter shoes
When it comes to practical winter outfits, I stick to boots, moccasins, or sneakers. Getting dressed is another story. But on a daily basis, when I walk around and get on and off the subway, heels are a no-no for me.
These leather riding boots and these block heel boots are two pairs that I have worn repeatedly this season. While the idea of a “block heel boot” might seem a little uncomfortable, it’s not. I can actually walk miles in them! When I’m looking for a winter shoe that can handle all types of weather, these notched sole boots are my favorites.
Loafers with a pair of chic socks are a great alternative to a pair of boots for a winter outfit. I think these Italian leather penny loafers are the best value for money. But if you’re looking to invest in a pair you’ll own forever, I’m one of them. platform loafers!
Sneakers are a no-brainer (honestly, all year round!) Just pair them with your favorite straight jeans and a great pair of socks and you’ll have an easy, classic winter outfit. Adidas is back with a vengeance. These fashionable sneakers are available in pretty but subtle colors. And I also like this classic pair. This is such a great and practical shoe that goes with everything. These Veja sneakers are another favorite in my closet. I never thought I would become such a sneaker lady, but here I am!
3. Pops of color in a winter outfit
I know this may not be true for everyone, but for me, pops of color are a staple in my cold weather wardrobe. Especially when I’m experiencing gloomy conditions, I find that a little color in a winter outfit can brighten my mood. Plus, it’s an easy way to add a fun touch to any look!
Little touches of color
One of my favorite ways to add color in winter is with little “pops” including tights, colorful socks, fun hats, and big scarves.
First up, the tights. People often ask me where I come from. My favorites come from here, here And here, and they are all very affordable. Tights at around $10 each are the perfect way to add a pop of color to any winter outfit! And when it comes to socks, that Pack of 20 colorful socks This is a very good purchase!
If you’re looking for an easy pop of color for under $20, this winter hat is my first choice. You can never go wrong with Kate Spade and I love the shades this hat comes in. I especially love Kate Spade’s signature green option! And if you’re looking to splurge, this colorful hat is beautiful and on my personal wish list.
Finally, if scarves are your thing, some of my current favorites are this bright blue beautyThis vintage plaid thick scarfand that classic plaid blanket scarf. All of these are very affordable for under $40.
Chic and warm winter outfits
In my eyes, if you start from these three essentials and add the remaining basics (jeans, sweaters, etc.), you can then create a chic and warm look!
