For those of us who grew up alongside Rory and dreamed of living a simple life in Stars Hollow, Gilmore Girls is much more than just a television show. It’s the perfect companion for self-care on a relaxing night at home, a comfort when we’re feeling down, and a way to reminisce about our childhood. Even though the show officially ended with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016, I’ll be revisiting Stars Hollow for as long as the series is available to stream (consider that a warning, Netflix).
As with any TV show I love, I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit wondering about the zodiac signs of characters in the Gilmore Girls-verse. What makes Jess so secretive and Lorelai so talkative (seriously, sometimes it just feels like we’re listening to an endless stream of her consciousness)? Lucky for you, I’ve been analyzing this for years and you no longer have to wonder. Continue to find out which one Gilmore Girls character that you are based on your zodiac sign.
Ram
Richard Gilmore
Few characters are as ambitious and direct as Richard Gilmore, Lorelai’s wealthy and successful father. Like Richard, Aries always says what he thinks and doesn’t see the point in beating around the bush. After all, why give vague signs when you can just get straight to the point? Aries can also be pushed to a fault, like when Mr. Gilmore ends up in the hospital due to stress and can’t sit still once he gets home.
Bull
Luke Danois
Thriving in the comfort of his restaurant, which is also his home, Luke Danes embodies the Taurus love of comfort, stability and delicious food. Although he tends to avoid big changes, he is good at building a comfortable and stable life for those he loves. Beyond his pessimism, we see a man who values simplicity in life. Plus, it really takes a Taurus-type dedication to comfort to wear almost the same outfit every day for all seasons of the show.
Gemini
Christophe Hayden
Due to his absence in Rory’s life and his constant desire to be with Lorelai but never showing up for her, Christopher is often one of the least liked characters on the show. But listen to me, I think he’s really just a misunderstood Gemini. Like a Gemini, he thrives on having as many different experiences as possible in life to learn and grow. It’s hard for Gemini to sit still when there is so much to see in the world. Plus, to be fair, he ends up learning and growing through his life experiences, going from a mostly absent father to a single father.
Cancer
Sookie St. James
Although she doesn’t become pregnant with her own child until season 3, Sookie acts as a second mother to Rory (and even sometimes to Lorelai) from the start. In typical Cancer fashion, she tends to sacrifice everything for those she loves and puts the needs of others before her own. Cancers do everything with love and want to help those around them live their best lives.
Leo
Miss Patty
Few characters exhibit the Leo’s traits of self-expression, creativity, and performance as well as Miss Patty – she truly sets the “star” in Stars Hollow. Not only does she make a statement wherever she goes, but she constantly channels her creative energy into various performances and works of art. Like a true Leo, we often see her spicy side come out, especially when dealing with Kirk (who just has a way of bringing it out in people).
Virgin
Rory Gilmore
Like Virgos, Rory has a certain innocence, but she is also practical and grounded. From choosing which school to attend to choosing between Dean, Jess, or Logan throughout the series, she thinks long and hard about her decisions. Her emotions play a role, but she’s mostly driven by logic (like when she’s unable to return Dean’s “I love you” on their three-month anniversary). In Rory, we also see the typical Virgo trait of not settling down, especially when she turns down Logan’s proposal rather than pursuing a more certain future with him.
Balance
Lorelai Gilmore
A social butterfly with the gift of the gab, it’s almost impossible to think of a more Libra character than Lorelai Gilmore. Even when her opinions are strong or she lets her emotions get the best of her, she can still get along with almost everyone in Stars Hollow. Whether it’s dealing with issues with guests at the inn, trying to convince Ms. Kim to join in on Rory and Lane’s plans, or flirting with Rory’s handsome new teacher, she’s good at communicating and build social bridges.
Scorpio
Jess Mariano
With a major “bad boy” vibe (every show needs that, right?), Jess is the Scorpion of Stars Hollow. Viewers might be amazed at how he disappears from the scene and then reappears later after writing a full-length novel, but Scorpio can admire his need for privacy and alone time to achieve his goals. Like the Scorpions, Jess has a different, more sensitive side, which he reveals to Rory once he gets to know her and can trust her.
Sagittarius
April Nardini
Often forgotten in the grand scheme of things Gilmore Girls-verse, April goes from being a nerdy science lover to an exploring Sagittarius as she gets older. During his brief appearance in the summer episode of the revival, April visits him after he graduates from MIT. She wears a nose ring and talks about her plans to campaign for the legalization of marijuana as well as her love of philosophy. She is on the Sagittarius path and sets out to explore, expand her mind and find deeper meaning in life.
Capricorn
Paris Geller
Focusing on her goals and, well, not much else, Paris Geller brings Capricorn energy wherever she goes, whether it’s Yale or Stars Hollow. Like those dedicated goats, she sticks to her goals and isn’t afraid to make sacrifices, like when she tries to break up with Doyle to keep a clear mind about her options after graduation ( luckily Doyle didn’t have it – he’s probably another Cancer).
Aquarius
Lane Kim
From hiding his rock n’ roll albums in the floorboards to continuing to play in a band against his mother’s wishes (and even after having his twins), Lane has been forging his own path from the beginning . Like Lane, Aquarians are known for going against the grain and living life on their own terms. They are also able to branch out and expand their social circles easily, as we can see when Lane becomes comfortable with her bandmates and even marries Zack, while remaining close to her old friends.
Pisces
Dean Forester
There will always be a divide between Team Jess and Team Dean, but what Dean lacks in mystery he makes up for in sensitivity and kindness. Just as Pisces can tap into a sense of universal consciousness, Dean has the ability to (mostly) understand where others are coming from and take their feelings into consideration. However, his own strong feelings can cause him to get ahead of himself from time to time, such as when he ends up scaring Rory after buying her a car and confessing his love for her.
