Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie blasted his rival Nikki Haley for her on Thursday. not even mentioning the word “slavery” as the cause of the American Civil War.
When Haley was asked Wednesday at a campaign event what caused the Civil War, she said it was “basically how the government was going to work“.
“She’s not racist,” Christie said during a campaign appearance Thursday in Epping, New Hampshire. But what she did was “just as bad, if not worse, and should worry everyone about her candidacy,” he warned.
“She did it because she doesn’t want to offend anyone by telling the truth,” the former New Jersey governor said.
“If she doesn’t want to stand up and say that slavery caused the Civil War because she’s afraid of offending (some) of her constituents… if she’s afraid to say that Donald Trump is unfit because ‘She’s afraid of offending those who (support) him)….what will happen when she has to stand up to Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping in China?’ request.
She can’t be a leader if she’s too afraid of offending someone, Christie noted. There is good and bad, he stressed.
“The Civil War was not a choice between change and tradition. It was a choice between good and evil…and we have to stand on the side of good,” he said.
