SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess) — The Moscone Center, San Francisco’s premier convention and events center, has received the prestigious LEED Platinum certification for existing building operations and maintenance.
This certification constitutes the highest level of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification process, developed by the US Green Building Council.
In 2019, following the completion of the $551 million Moscone Center expansion program, the newly expanded Moscone North and South complex received the highest possible score in the world for LEED Platinum certification for new construction. a convention center.
With this latest recertification, the entire facility, including Moscone West, is now LEED EB:OM Platinum certified, ASM Global announced.
Moscone’s infrastructure supporting the facility’s sustainability mission includes solar panels on both roofs of Moscone South that provide the center with approximately 19 percent of its electricity, as well as gray water treatment systems that recover 15 million gallons of water each year for reuse in landscaping, street cleaning and flushing toilets.
The venue also offers sustainable dining options, supported by ASM Global’s SAVOR culinary division, which has developed menus designed to help the Moscone Center reduce its carbon footprint.
“This is an incredible accomplishment that demonstrates the Moscone Center team’s unwavering commitment to sustainability,” said Lindsay Arell, director of Honeycomb Strategies who was instrumental in securing this designation. “Their leadership is an inspiration to the events industry, as they show that we can both serve our clients with first-class service, while reducing the impact of our buildings in the cities in which we operate.
“ASM Global is committed to making its convention center portfolio the most sustainable collection in the world,” added Dan Hoffend, executive vice president of convention centers for ASM Global which manages the center. “The Moscone Center in San Francisco is leading our efforts to achieve this goal and raise the bar for the industry for cutting-edge sustainability innovations.
