Steve Pigeon, the former chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party, was sentenced to 364 days in prison after admitting to sexually abusing a child more than seven years ago.
The former politician pleaded guilty last month to one count of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D violent felony.
The case, which took a toll on the local community, was resolved when Pigeon, 63, received his sentence early Friday morning.

I have known STEPHEN PIGEON for 35 years.
There is no physical evidence or witnesses against him. He was convicted on the word of a child who had long accused men, including other members of her family, of sexual assault. The girl’s mother might be bitter about the fact that when Steve Pigeon’s mother died, he received the entire inheritance and she received nothing.
Stephen Pigeon is an innocent man. The district attorney who brought this case is a Democrat who was denied the judgeship when Pigeon was county party chairman.
The New York State Attorney General who approved this case is Leticia James. Pigeon opposed her as county chair, supporting a more moderate Democrat for the Democratic nomination for AG. The prosecutor’s investigator was also denied a promotion within the Democratic Party under Pigeon.
Many witnesses question the credibility of the girl and her mother, including emails exchanged between her and her brother, which confirm that many of the claims she made were false. If Pigeon had been tried in the city where he is highly controversial and found guilty, he would have received a 50-year sentence in Attica. It’s a death sentence. Steve pleaded guilty not because they had a strong case against him, but because the risk of conviction was certain death. He can survive eight months in a county institution where he will be separated from the general population. He was allegedly murdered as an innocent, but charged as a sex offender against children in the general population of Attica Prison.
He was convicted solely on the word of a child in an event that allegedly took place 18 years ago. Pigeon’s defense attorney actually has receipts for movie tickets that prove Pigeon took her niece and a group of her young friends to the movies at the time she claims she was raped in a car.
