welcome to Portrait session, a series of intimate photos and an interview featuring some of our favorite people of the moment.
After six seasons, The crown bows out this month. Tracing the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her marriage in 1947 until 2005, Netflix’s award-winning historical drama has consistently treated us to spectacular performances from industry greats such as Olivia Coleman, Matt Smith and Helena Bonham Carter , to name a few. , while skyrocketing the careers of some notable new faces (Claire Foy and Emma Corrin, anyone?). With the second part of season six airing today, we expect that kind of star-making power to unfold again as the story focuses on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s early courtship at St. Andrews . Since the season six cast was announced in fall 2022, fans have been eager to see newcomers Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy’s portrayal of the infamous royal couple. Emerging from obscurity, the actors are expected to have a major breakout moment after their on-screen debut. So if they weren’t already on your radar, they should be now.
The first time I met McVey was during our photo shoot for this story at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. He was delightfully charming, cracking jokes in between posing for the camera. Clearly ready for a bright future. Our second meeting took place a few weeks later, albeit virtually. At the time, the actor’s schedule was filled with premieres, trips and press appearances, but he didn’t seem phased. The first part of the final season came out in November, but since he’s not in those early episodes, he likens the experience to being on a roller coaster that slowly goes up the hill. The anticipation of what will happen on the other side is there, but the rush has not yet reached fever pitch. McVey expects that to come later, after part two. “I’m sure when this comes out it will be crazy and I won’t be prepared for anything,” he said.
