Biden’s re-election campaign is committed to educating Americans about what fascism and authoritarianism mean and recognizing that the Trump/MAGA message is the opposite of the democratic, freedom-based country that has defined the America for centuries. The use of disinformation, propaganda and conspiracy theories are being misused to frighten and control vulnerable and disaffected citizens. Autocrats present their lies in a highly emotional and performative style that inspires people to support even their regime’s most heinous policies and actions. Donald Trump is America’s first fascist dictator. The January 6 insurrection and his use of tactical rhetoric to incite violence against members of the judiciary and his political opponents are examples of his authoritarian impulses. Any person or law that holds him responsible for crimes against democracy becomess A target of his calls for violent reprisals from his supporters.
DONALD TRUMP AND JOE BIDEN COULD NOT BE MORE DIFFERENT.
Joe Biden is a man of faith. He is not quick to anger, is not vengeful, respects and admires diversity, has compassion for those who suffer loss and suffer from poverty or disability. He is not thin-skinned, does not complain, does not blame or lie. He engages in compromise with his opponents and views all people as equal. He does not break the law, incite violence, disrespect or violate the Constitution. He values people, relationships, faith and decency over money and possessions. He does not speak, curse, shout, intimidate, or seek to ruin the lives of people who oppose him. He’s strong without relying on false, toxic masculinity.
Social scientists explain Trump’s popularity as a sectarian movement. They credit Trump’s ability to lie, make false promises, manipulate and use intimidation tactics to create the loyalty he receives from his supporters. But this can only be a partial explanation. When you listen to Trump supporters show their trust and devotion to him, not only do they believe his every word (without investigation), but they think, feel and act like him. This is the scariest part of the Trump era. He revealed that millions of people share his character flaws and dangerous, hateful impulses. Having different points of view is not a pathology. However, hating and wanting to harm or get rid of people with different perspectives is pathological. The best way to protect democracy is to recognize the haters and not elect them to any branch of government.
