Staying warm may be an understatement for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama.
The Crimson Tide climbed into the top 10 of the 2025 team recruiting rankings this week with an emphasis on defense and particularly linebacker. Darrell Johnson committed Wednesday, Abduall Sanders followed Thursday and now another four-star linebacker Luc Metz made his commitment to the AU public on Sunday.
Each of the prospects was able to travel to Tuscaloosa over the past two weeks, with Metz visiting Wednesday and Thursday, when he gave a quiet commitment to DeBoer and company.
“I just felt the vibes, the vibes were great,” Metz told Rivals, admitting his decision became clear after a one-on-one conversation with defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. “It’s the winning culture there. Everything they do is elite.”
Metz participated in UA spring practices before spending more intimate time with the coaches. It included DeBoer, who spoke with the Crimson Tide’s latest commit for an hour before the visit ended.
“Getting to know it a little more, with their brand of football,” he said. “It was a cool atmosphere…then I talked to Coach Wommack and he said, ‘What are you going to do, man? No pressure.’
“I told him I was committed, ‘let’s do it!’ Then he started jumping up and down, he was so excited. That was kind of the reaction of the whole coaching staff, so it made me feel really special.”
The new group in town, despite Metz’s fandom in Alabama during his childhood, played a major role in this commitment. This included their approach, something he could see up close and feel more comfortable with.
“It’s very different from the old staff,” he said. “It’s more defined. The amount of detail is still there, but it’s a newer, younger approach. It’s a new take on things, and the way they use all their tools… it’s fine produce a lot of things.” win football.
“It was hard not to go for it.”
Slated to play the stinger position in Alabama’s new defense, the Crimson Tide’s latest commit expects to hit the ground running once he gets to Tuscaloosa for good.
“I’m fitting in extremely well,” Metz said. “We are going to make some things happen in 2025 and in the years to come.”
